Interview to get in school... advice needed!

Wow. I've never heard of having to have an interview to get into school. What kind of things would you need to know? Wish I could help you, but all I can say is.... Good Luck!:)

the only thing i was asked was "why do you want to be a nurse?"

my answer, it has just always been what i wanted to do & now i have opportunity (had just moved) and finances to fulfill my dream. throw in some of that sappy stuff about wanting to help others. lol

Isn't the real reason you're going to nursing school is to impress those judges at the Miss America Pageant? ;-)

Well, think about why do you want to become a nurse , that is usually the top question. Think about what will you do once you become a nurse, how far do you plan to go. Also some schools ask you do you know what a nurse do. The questions are basically set up like that. My school does not have a formal interview but they want everyone to come in to talk to the admission's recruiter before applying and the admission's recruiter is asking questions, so my school does an informal interview expect they don't call it an interview. I had a nursing school interview this fall and it was awful, mostly because I over-stressed myself about it (i.e., it would have been fine had I not kept thinking to myself that *everything* was riding on this one interview...psyched myself out big time).

I was asked the following questions:

1. What qualities make a good nurse?

2. What are your career goals?

3. Why did you decide to go into nursing, specifically?

4. If there was one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be?

5. What do you consider to be your strengths?

6. What qualities can you bring to the nursing profession?

7. Describe one time you helped someone.

The last one threw me - I totally blanked LOL I was like, "What? One time I helped someone? Um...well...gee, I *know* I've helped someone before...let's see...um..." LOL It was such a broad question.

They also asked about volunteer experiences, extra curricular stuff, healthcare experience, etc.

Best advice I can give is to relax, be yourself and don't get too worked up about it (easier said than done, I know *g*). Be positive, make eye contact, smile and don't be afraid to talk about your accomplishments.

Oh! One more thing - be prepared to *ask* questions as well - it shows that you are interested and have done a little research.
