Internationl Nurses looking to study in US?

I am from the UK and I'm a Licensed Registered Nurse and I was looking to advance my education in the United States and I also have family there too...so I did some research online and I came across a University called Arlington. They provide full-ride 100% scholarships to international nurses who wish to obtain a BSN or MSN degree and become a Certified HealthCare Practitioner. They cover computers and internet, study materials, uniforms, transportation, housing, medical insurance, tuition, living expenses, meals, immigration and licensing and much more...and your family can come too, which was great because I have a fiance that would love to visit the US. I heard of some nurses that applied and got approved by state boards to take the NCLEX. It sounds like a great opportunity to advance your education, nursing skills, and career! I'm excited and I thought I would share this great news with everyone. If anyone is interested in studying in the US, let me know and I can give you the information to apply. I will let you all know how well it goes in the meantime.

Before you do anything, I would check more into them. I could not find a university called Arlington University in California.

If they are sponsoring you for a student visa, then you cannot work at all during that time, even if you pass NCLEX. The US does not allow student visa holders to work at all. If they are sponsoring you on a student visa, your fiance is not included with that and can only stay the normal tourist time.

Something sounds "fishy"......................................I would actually speak to a few of the nurses that have gone there, not just take their word for it.

There is also no listing for them in the approved nursing schools in California. Definitely be careful!!!!!!!! Do not believe everything that you see on the internet.

I spoke to someone at the university and they did tell me that I will be sponsored for a student visa so I am aware that I will not be allowed to work while in the us. The scholarship covers living expenses while the students are training in hospitals and they are accredited with the state of california for continuing education. This program is for advanced education for international students who wish to earn a higher degree in nursing. They tell you that you are not allowed to work and you are only there on a student visa not to live there...so yes, i will end up back in my country after I am finished with my studies. But, I will get the chance to train in US hospitals and become a certified healthcare practitioner and also I get to see the US, which I have never been to. I think it's a great opportunity and they have been very helpful to me during the admissions process. I would recommend it for any nurse that wishes to visit the US and get the chance to train as a nurse there. They say I can bring family and I contacted the Embassy so I know they cannot work there and that is okay cause I will have to show some funds to provide for my fiance while in the US but the living expense they give to students will also cover him too because housing is paid for. I can understand where one might feel weird about it at first but I have done my research too. Thanks for your advice!

I would still be very careful with them. There name was not listed as an approved school, so how can you you get an approved MSN from them. Also what do they get in return from you. No one gives anything completely for free, whhat are you having to promisre to do in the end? Sign a contract to work for someone for a certain number of years. Just sounds quite peculiar that they are offering a complete 100% scholarship for a foreign nurse when there are many American nurses that would love to have that.

Sorry that this is sounding so down, but I have seen many other programs pop up like that and the nurses had BIG problems afterwards. Just please be very careful.

Also how can they be granting a BSN, when they aren't on the approved list? Something is quite fishy there. Definitely be careful.

I understand how one might think it sounds a little off....I have a good feeling about them and the nurses who are further ahead in the program than myself. It really depends on whether or not I get approved by the California State Board of Registered Nursing to take the NCLEX. It's all dependant upon that. We'll see!

Again as we said, no one gives you a degree for no payment back. If it is a scholarship then you are usually required to work for a facility for so many years afterwards. And normally when students go to the US on a scholarship or for further training, they do not have a US license. I know many nurses that received MSN and PhD degrees in the US, but never had a license. It is usually not a requirement.

You are really opening a can of worms. Do you actually know nurses personally in this program or just names that the school gave you. Something so7und quite fishy. Also, if you are going for an advanced degree, you usually are not working at a hospital. Something is definitely strange!!!!

By the way, F1 Student is allowed to work limited amount of hours.

He or she can work on campus. They can apply for school.

After 1 year consecutively staying US as F1, then they can apply for working permit and get a job off campus, but they are only allowed to work only for 20 hours as well. This program seems to be fishy a bit, but if there is out there,

that would be wonderful, isn't it? I see similer program in Japan when I was doing some resarch for my host student. Japanese program would cost about $10K total and become RN in US and do green card support. A bit different from one UK program. It was not included scholorship nor covering living expenses...

Well, thought I may put some infor for F1 status working in US here.

Umm, I am saying the same as the others - dont want to burst your bubble but you having "a good feeling" doesnt necessarily mean that this is good....perhaps I am being a bit pessimistic..

wouldnt it be better to register to do the NCLEX and get your Green Card and see the USA that way??? yes it takes an awful long time (I should know I am still waiting to go) but it is a procedure that many have done and is recognised...you dont get nothing for free...not in this life anyway...
