Internal Posting

Hi! I have have been a frequent "creeper" on this forum for the past 4 years while going through nursing school and my first "real" job. I have just recently transitioned from the hospital back to LTC after gaining my first year of experience in acute care.

I've been night charge for the past two months and am grateful to be back in this setting. I'm a young RN and grew up at this facility where I was an aide for many years. Recently a day shift supervisor position was posted and I have been encouraged by the DNS to apply, but don't know what I should write in my cover letter without sounding pushy or causing unwanted tension. I'm confident in myself, though, and have caught on quickly to the logistics of LTC (but of course am still learning)!

Any advice? Thanks!

As your questions pertain to LTC specifically, I'll defer to those with experience to reply on the topic of your cover letter.

It is to your credit that your DNS is encouraging you to apply for the job, and a cover letter is at best a document that conveys in a written form what you've conveyed by your performance handling responsibility as the night charge nurse.

I do want to give you the official allnurses welcome as an active participant here. Very best to you!

Toot your own horn. No one else will toot it for you. Briefly explain why you think you have the skills necessary to be the day supervisor. What kind of unwanted tension? Are there many people interested in the position? Good luck.
