Interim Permittee

I still have one semester left for my BSN, but I still occasionally look at hospital web-sites for jobs even though I will not be applying for a few more months....what is an Interim Permittee? Can anyone explain?

You can apply for an Interim Permit from your BON so that you can work after you graduate but before you pass your NCLEX. This allows you to interview and start a position even though you dont actually have your RN yet. I applied for mine right before I graduated and it was issued about 2 weeks after graduation- never needed though because I passed the NCLEX before I was hired!

Best wishes!

It also depends on your state -- some states do not issue Interim Permits. The state I live in automatically issues an Interim Permit upon graduation from a nursing school and it is good for 90 days and is not renewable. If you take the NCLEX within those 90 days and pass, your permit is revoked and you are given an RN; however, if you fail the NCLEX, the permit is also revoked.

Best to check with your State Board of Nursing.
