Insomniac

Silly question, I'm a new RN, stressed out about work, going through crap at home, blah blah blah (excuses excuses, right?)

This doesn't happen to me often (insomnia), but I have to be at work in um 4 hours and cannot sleep. I would hate to call off, but I don't feel like I would be safe at work with no sleep. What should I do? (I hardly ever call off)

Call off. Especially if it is a 12hr shift. You could make it through, but you just went through enough of that in nursing school. Call in sick and relax. Enjoy your day after a good 7-8 hours of sleep. After all, the north pole could be underwater by September.

I've had major sleep issues and have gone in on no sleep. I certaintly wouldn't recommend it, I hope that by now (next morning) you called out and are fast asleep!!!, It would probably be a good idea to go see your PCP and see if he can help you out a bit, nursing is stressful, not to mention what we experience at home and with family!Good luck, and go talk to someone, especially if this is reoccuring sometimes we can't help ourselves and need to be taken care of rather than always being the caretaker, your not alone :flowersfo

I say that if it only happens once in a while(stress)...life happens. Sure you want to be responsible...but safety trumps that. You are not safe to be working with patients....relax, sleep a good amount, and just call off with PLENTY of notice to the shift...
