Information or advice on my current status.

Hello guys, I am an RN for about 2 years now but my actual working experience is only 1 year I am from the country of the Philippines and I wanted to pursue my nursing career in Australia particularly the bridging program.I have 1 year clinical experience and I recently took my IELTS exam. Unfortunately, the result was not that good. L:6.5 R:6.5 S:7 W:6.0 I know that this result is not enough to proceed with the bridging program and I am not financially stable in studying again in Australia. like aged care in Australia. I was just worried of the employment status in Australia if I'm going to take a different course.That is basically my concern I hope someone could enlighten me because nurses here in the Philippines is steadily growing every year. The supply is very high and the demand is getting low so low that most of the employers here are taking advantage of it.

Yes, so true about your last comment about the oversupply of PH nurses with an estimated near 300,000 unemployed nurses. The USA has dried up also for any real job opportunity with the stricter admittance requirements, tougher enforcement of the PH curriculum in many States and growing, no more hospital sponsorships (or just a very very few), working visas are becoming a dying document like that of the mimeograph paper. AU and NZ getting more and more crowded with PH nurses and students with limited jobs also.

Even aged care advertisements are asking for applicants with work rights?Queensland health has just announced massive cuts to health and this includes nurses,Victoria is full.SouthAustralia has announced freezes in hiring.Most western Australian, Northern Territory need nurses that are culturally prepared and with much experience due to remoteness and they usually do not take on locals that do not have these requirements.Tasmania Has financial difficulties and has asked staff to resgin.NSW - Sydneu I have heard has been rushed by overseas nurses and is now cutting back on sponsorships, this included country hospitals. So you see, now same thing is happening in Australia- increased nursing students and now they are disheartened as jobs for nurses with little experience have gone in areas where they want to live, usually not far from families, as we are a funny lot we do not usually want to be too far away from Mum or Dad.As for the original poster no bridging course will be advised to attend. You have a nursing degree not an RN - bridging from what exactly? And no matter what education you receive you will need to present a valid IELTS of 7 in one sitting to be assessed by AHPRA.I do hope they all get a graduate year at least.

Have to agree. Nurses graduating this year in Victoria are struggling to find graduate place. Something like they're only expecting 60-70% of graduates being able to find a job for next year. I don't think it's a matter of hospitals not needing nurses but hospitals needing experienced nurses.

Thank you very much for all your replies, I don't know where to start now I just really loved nursing and I wanted to become a part of it as a whole. I have my two brothers in WA and VIC but they don't know how they can help me.

I hope someone can probably guide on what can i possibly do to in my very own situation?

I have read though forum threads regarding Australian dreams of Filipino nurses. Different comments arise,some positive others not so. Despite such, I still have not made a firm decision about my own nursing career. Like @kitkat19, I would like to seek some opinion regarding my current professional status...

I am an OR staff nurse since January 2012. So upon successful application to AHPRA (if finally decided to do so after getting ielts 7 considering an allowance of 3-6 mos) I would have accumulated 1 year plus exp in OR.

Would my qualifications be attractive enough for the Australian health care market after AHPRA registration?
