Yes, where I supervise (a peds sub-acute LTC) at one time the LPNs were doing it. As far as trachs, none of the nurses (RNs or LPNs) do it where I work. Only MD or NPs.

In my area LPNs change Gtubes in the hospitals, clinics and home care...pretty much anywhere one can be changed.

I suggest www.tracheostomy.com as an excellent source for general Peds trach info. If you have some specific questions please post them. I can probably direct you to answers if I know the questions.

Also, there is a thread at the top of this forum titled "Pediatric Vent Info". It also contains some links for trach info.

I changed both g tubes and trachs as an LPN..legal as long as you're properly trained..horrifying at first, but its as easy as changing a catheter when you get used to it!:) Shiley trachs are very commonly used in peds, come in various sizes, not sure what else you need to know. post it and i will see if i have any input.
