I'm curious

What does a research nurse do in the average day? I am trying to find out about all areas of nursing, and this one doesnt sound bad at all.

Thanks.;)

I think each job differs depending on what you are researching. Some are based in academic institutions, others are based in clinical environments.

As a clinical research nurse I used to:

  • prepare patients to enter clinical trials (ensuring informed consent)
  • monitor and follow-up patients according to the research protocols
  • prepare ethics proposals
  • prepare research proposals
  • negotiate with pharmaceutical companies on set up and contracts for research studies
  • Liaise with companies on on-going clinical trials
  • negotiate with hospital administration
  • Making sure all research complies with GCP guidelines
  • Making sure all research WHO codes of conduct
