IL/IN border...

OK...here's my situation....I currently live in near the IN border in IL and just bought a house in IN. I"m going to school in IL and will graduate this May. I plan on working in IN when I graduate so here's my question...will I have reciprocity with my license if I sit for IL boards or will I have to sit for IN boards as well? Or, can I just take IN boards? Anyone have any input? Thanks!

Hi! You can take Boards here in Illinois, and still get your Indiana license. There IS reciprocity if you get your Illinois license.

Seeing as you are so close to the border, have you considered having licensure in BOTH states?

If I get licensed in both states do I have to take 2 tests? If I get reciprocity with an IL license, why would I get a dual license for IN? Does it make a difference? Thanks for the help!

You can get Main licenses in either state. So you only need to take 1 test

Ind. is part of a network that covers several states if you get your license through them. ILL is not part of that group. My wife is a RN through IL and has license in IND. She got them through endorsement process on Indiana board of nursing web site. Both License are permanent and need renewed accordingly

I hope this helps

You would only need to take the NCLEX test one time. However, if you get licensed in Indiana, and wish to practice in Illinois, you need to have a valid Illinois license. Otherwise,,,,"practicing w/o a license". The same is true if you got the Illinois license first, and then wanted to practice in Indiana.
