ICU positions

Will a Travel company hire you in ICU as a new grad or do you need at least 12 months experience?

Hey Mitch, I don't think anyone would hire you with no experience. The point of traveling is it's a short assigment meaning 1-2 days orientation on the floor. Travelers who don't have enough experience are horrible to work with. You definitley need a year. some companies/hospitals even want 2 years.

Mitch,

I work as an aid in ICU and we have 2 travel RNs. However they have had ICU or ER experience in the past. At least 1-2 years.

I went from med surg/tele to ICU and it was a good two years before I felt comfortable enough to do registry.

Hey guys...i need your advice!! I'm an ICU RN for about a 1.7 years now, and i am really really getting into travel nursing (it's been my dream since RN school). So here's my issue: I've worked 1 year in one hospital, and am now currently working on my 2nd year in nursing at another hospital. My goal was to start traveling after i've been @ my current job for 2 years (giving me 3 yrs of icu experience), but im really starting to look into and hopefully start sooner, like april on my 1 year anniversary @ my job. Do you think this would make me look bad as far applying to companies and getting assignemnts?? I feel like i'd be more marketable if i suck it up and stay for the 2 yrs @ my current job. Any opinions??
