well, where in the 5 boros do you live? do you live within a reasonable distance to a college that has a nursing program? i do know that a lot of the colleges have a lottery system as so many people are looking at entering into nursing.

I live in manhattan but i am willing to travel. I did check city tech but people who go there said that you need an average of 3.5 now where am i going to get that from? Haha i need a place that will accept me i just dont know what to do

Being in the five boros of NY and trying to go to nursing school can be difficult especially if your looking at a CUNY school. They usually have high GPA requirements and like the other post said, it's done by a lottery system.

One of the things you can check out are private colleges. Although, they are a bit more expensive, the chances of getting in are a little better. Your job (since you work in a hospital) may also contribute towards the tuition.

Another option...to get your feet wet would be doing a LPN program. I actually just received an email this morning on a program the NYC is sponsoring through a HHC hospital that is 10 months long and starts this September. There are a couple of requirements before getting accepted...I can forward to you if interested.

Lastly, if you can commnute, some of the SUNY colleges are little better to get into especially those that are upstate NY. Not sure if you have to work to support yourself, but I decided to go that route and I'm in my third semester in a RN program upstate NY. The requirements were ALOT easier to get into the school because alot people are not willing or can't sacrifice relocating so the school is not inudated with applications.

Just a few suggestions.

I too noticed that the programs in the city were more competitive. I'm in a compromising situation where I am interested in pursuing a career in Nursing, however, I have a full time job along with financial obligations - limiting me to evening/weekend courses which seem to be almost impossible to find in the NYmetro area. So I'm trying to seek out any evening LPN programs sans the crazy commute. I'm not too familiar with the regional NY area. I was wondering if anyone knew of such a course.
