all I know is the agnecy I work for does not allow you to wear them if you work directly with clients. I personally try to keep my nails very short so as to not carry any more germs under them than I have to. Also, I would have a problem with them going through the gloves.
Yea i know that much i am really having difficulty because my instructor gave me this essay to do and all it says is Artificial Nails and Healthcare but i cant find any information at all Would u know like a website that gives info on health care that i could go to?

The issue is directly related to infection control. The nails harbor organisms which can spread Nosocomial Infections.

Try using multiple search engines and type different words (fake, artificial, press on, etc. and then type organisms, yeast, bacteria, etc..not just aritificial nails and health care.
But, to start you off!!!!!!!!!!!
Marsden Manual (Ch.4) states...
"Artificial nails harbour microbes and cannot be cleaned as effectively as short, natural nails and must not be worn by those undertaking aseptic techniques (Porteous 2002)."
Here is a journal aricle by Porteous J.
Can Oper Room Nurs. J. 2002 Sep;20(3)16-7,20-1.
Here is a newsletter from ICP Associates...Artificial Nails and Healthcare Associated Infections
AND
Must I really take off my beautiful nails?
From Yale-New Haven Hospital's site
"New 'Natural and Artificial Nails Policy',Artificial nails and long natural nails harbor large numbers of bacteria and yeast under and around the nail and have been linked to the transmission of infections to patients in healthcare settings."
Good luck with your assignment.

Jay
