Hurst Review

Published

Have any of you taken the Hurst review and then taken the NCLEX? I've been through the class and loved it. I won't be taking my boards until Feb. through.

His Nurse, I would like to know what you liked about it? I am thinking about taking the review in Tampa in December, and would like to know what you thought and any others. I will be taking boards for the 4th time sometime at the end of the year beginning of Jan. 2009...

I have taken Kaplan twice, and obviously I haven't gotten out of it what others have, as I haven't passed yet.

I work in a busy hospital and some of the nurses have suggested Hurst either online or live, and would really like to know what you and others think.

It has been so long since I've felt like a nurse, and I really don't know what to do with my studying, and how to structure it, and really feel I need some classroom time.

THANKS to any responses in advance.:wink2:

The reason I started the thread originally was just to talk with those who have taken the Hurst and then taken the NCLEX. In January I will take the Hurst Review for teh 3rd time (I graduate in December). The review is ABSOLUTLY AMAZING AMAZING. The things I never understood in nursing school (Fluid and Electrolytes especially) are made so simple. After I took the Hurst review, I did so much better in nursing school. If you were my close friend, I would grab you by the arm, look at you straight in the eye and say, "Please take the Hurst review, you won't regret it." :redbeathe I know that in my school, all the girls that took the review all past. I am doing the Kaplan right now and it does not compare to Hurst. Do the live review. It's only $350 one time and it's worth the money to pass. I have friends who don't want to spend the money and I think they are crazy.

You can try Dr Martin Review, she's good also, my bro and sis tried it and they pass, she's not around Houston sometime this year so i can't take the review...try visit her website maybe next month she is in your state..

Thank you very much. I signed up for the Hurst Review and will be taking it in December. I would love to hear from anyone else who has taken it. I would especially like to hear from anyone that took it after failing boards and how it helped you.

THANKS...

I took Hurst twice and also have taken NCLEX. I failed. Hurst was nothing like NCLEX. I studied only Hurst for four months then sat for NCLEX.

Big mistake.

Kaplan's questions are the closest thing I've seen to the NCLEX style of questions. Not to say Hurst is a total waste, just not to put all of your faith in the hype many of these courses promote.

I would have liked to take Hurst during school. It does put things in a very logical perspective and it is a good recap of many topics. It's just not NCLEX.

My suggestion would be to take Hurst but add an element of practice questions into the mix. Saunders is good. The Kaplan question bank if you could afford it would also be a great strategy.

Good luck.

I loved the Hurst review for the same reasons! Our class was divided on it about half loved the review and the other half...not so much. I took the NCLEX-RN and passed the first time. There were a few people in my class that did not. I did not just study the review materials, I got my hands on as many NCLEX-RN review books as I could and answered question after question after question and reviewed the rationales.

I've heard some good things about Hurst. I did Kaplan and I do believe that is what helped me pass on my first go at it. The class itself I could have probably forgone, but the practice with the trainers and the qbank was worth its weight in gold. Because while I was taking the NCLEX, I was convinced I was failing because I thought that the questions weren't hard enough-don't get me wrong, they were tough questions, especially in retrospect, but I didn't think they were passing level because I had heard so many horror stories. Anyway, when the test turned off at 75, I was totally surprised. And then I found out I passed two days later and I got my life back! The Kaplan questions I had been practicing with were as tough or tougher than passing level questions on the exam.

So I know I sound like I must work for Kaplan and I'm promoting it, but I don't! Lol. Anyway, whatever you choose, be sure to work the program and put in 100% effort. And read the rationales so you learn to think the right way.

Also-even if you elect not to do Suzanne's plan, get the Saunders book and just do like fifty questions a night from there. Great content review.

Good luck!

I took the Hurst review and loved it. They break it down into simple terms and all of a sudden things just begin to click in your head, that didn't during nursing school. I took the Hurst review in June and didn't take the NCLEX until October and passed my first time. I gave the book one big read through and then answered questions on NCLEX 3500 until I couldn't see straight. I took what I learned in Hurst, applied it to answering questions and just kept answering questions so I could get used to those style of questions.

Everyone of my classmates that took the Hurst review passed the NCLEX the first time and we all took it during September and October, even though we took the review in June. I know it doesn't work for everyone but I found it very helpful for me.

Good luck to you guys!!!

I on the other hand took Kaplan and have not passed the exam after 3 attempts. I took Kaplan twice, and really don't know why I haven't failed. I too did all the Q trainer questions and I even renewed my online service with them before my 3rd attempt. I was doing abou 80-100 questions daily. I did Suzanne's plan, and I am starting the first tip again this week. I figure if I do that before the Hurst Review in Dec. at least I am looking at questions again attempting to have some kind of plan. Thanks everyone and good luck to all!

Same for me! I could not believe what had tripped me up in nursing school could be so simply explained.

I think (of course I am talking from a prospective experience) it is how much you really learn of the book and can APPLY that knowledge that you've learned. You really need to know it inside and out and be able to explain it. It really made a difference in my rational skills.

I bought a Hurst Book and it comes with a CD. She explains everything. It contains charts and very good CD.
