How did you study for the Teas V?

Published

Hello. I'm am looking to apply into the University of Memphis Nursing program Spring 2016. How would you recommend studying for the Teas V? Did the ATI testing study manual and online practice tests help? What was your score?

Definitely 100% get the ATI study manual! They sell them on the ATI site for about $70 but you can get them brand new on Amazon for $26.

I studied for about 2 months. Off and on during the week when I had the chance to (I work full time and go to school full time) and then I spent my entire Saturday's for those two months studying.

The hardest section for me was the Science...there are tons of different areas and I haven't been in a science class aside from APHY since around 2010 in high school. The ATI book has everything that is on the test, but for more in-depth areas, I used Khan Academy and watched their videos which helped a lot.

The first time I took it, I had a 77.3%. They gave us a printout of our score broken down and areas that we missed and the pages they were on in the ATI book (super helpful). I just went through and studied all the areas I missed and when I did my retake, I scored an 82%.

Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time out to reply. I will definitely be purchasing the manual/practice tests package. I hope to do just as well. Thank you.

Hey!

I took the TEAS Test back in January of this year. I got an 87.4 on the exam, I didn't know the center didn't want us to use the restroom during the exam, so unfortunately I had rushed through the English section and that portion I did poorly on.

To encourage myself to study I signed up for my exam using the ATI & TEAS website. I signed up 2 months in advance. I purchased the ATI version of the TEAS study manual, it's the best to prepare for the exam. I also purchased the both A&B practice exams from the ATI website, took version A the day I signed up so I knew what to focus on. Then I used Quizlet and printed off some of the notecards, and carried them with me everywhere. If you do that, I would suggest focusing solely on what you need to improve on. I think that helped the most. I also purchased the McGraw Hill 5 practice tests from Amazon (it was only $20) and it's alright. I just took the practices tests every other week.

2 weeks before the exam I took the version B of the practice test online, and I did really well! So I spent the final 2 weeks brushing up on what I had missed on that exam, I also went online and found a good conversion chart so that it was easy to convert from milli, centi, deci, etc. I would strongly suggest knowing all major equations like: Celsius to Fahrenheit, Area (triangle, circle, irregular shapes), a few physics equations (momentum, speed, etc.), and please know how to do a Punnett square!!!

I applied to UTHSCSA and UIW, both accepted me and UIW offered me a $40,000 scholarship.

Wow! Congratulations on being accepted into both programs and on the scholarship! Thanks so much for the great advice and for taking the time to respond! :)

Anytime! If you need help, message me. I'll do my best to try and help over the computer, I'm currently tutoring 3 people for the TEAS Test.

Hi!

I took the TEAS last August. I thought the ATI book was very helpful. In order to be prepared I spent one month going over the book and doing the exercises. The online tests also helped to get me used to being timed. My situation may be a bit different as this was my first standardized test (i am from a country that doesn't use standardized test). I would say watch the time, especially for the math section, it goes by so fast! The Bio part was really easy, I really thought there would be more anatomy, but there was only 2 questions. My first score was 84% and my second score 89.3%.

I had less than 2 weeks to study for the TEAS V, so I purchased the ATI study manual from the website as well as the two practice test, and I studied for it EVERYDAY until the day of the exam (which were less than 14 days) but I did it everyday for at least 2 hours. If I noticed I already knew most of it (Like math) I would just read it once or twice and really focus on what I felt were my weak points. I did the two practice test close to the day of the test (one the night before, and the other 3 days before).

My recommendation is study in advance (I would have rather have a full month to study for it) and I would only a 100% focus on the ATI study manual and NOTHING ELSE (A friend lend me her books but it was just confusing, so I ended up only using the ATI manual)

I scored a 91.5%

I took the TEAS V on feb 21 and I studied for about a month. I used the ATI study manual and youtube (lol) and got 81%. I bought the practice tests A and B on their website and each was $44...tbh for me it was not worth it...it was harder than the actual test and instead I think that the practice tests at the back of the ATI manual are the closest to the actual test. I scored highest in science (95.8%). The science was very random and tbh the ATI manual helped a bit but not a lot. The science portion does not go into too much detail it's just random and vague. For science if you want further information just watch videos on youtube about basic physio, micro, anatomy and some chemistry. My lowest score was in reading (69%). The manual is great to practice for reading. My problem with the reading portion was I ran out of time so practice reading passages efficiently. My English was ok I got (73%). I didn't focus a lot on English because I assumed it would be easy but that's not true. For me it was a bit confusing. I focused mostly on science and math, and in math I scored (86%). The manual gives great examples for the math portion.

Basically use the manual and focus on your weakness.

Hi,

I got the ATI study manual and the McGraw Hill "Nursing Entrance Exam" study guides. I worked through each section and did about two hours a day for a month. Math was my weak part because it has been so long since I haven't been able to use a calculator, so I watched a lot of YouTube videos. There are a ton of really great resources out there- for free! I was really really nervous because it's been at least three years since my last prerequisite class but I looked up everything I didn't understand, looked for free practice tests online, payed for 2 ATI tests and took all of the tests in the McGraw Hill book. It payed off. I took the test once and got a 94%.

Good luck!
