How much time did your MSN program require?

I'm interested in starting my MSN online. I got my BSN online at Chamberlain. How many hours a week did you spend on school? I plan on going to Western Governors University online.

Too many variables and probably no one can answer this question. I went in the days of B and M, with a 2 hour drive to get there. Then sat in class for 3 hours.

I would like to say that the NP curriculum was super difficult, but I did not find it to be. Even the pathophys was pretty much a repeat of the BSN.

The papers are the big time wasters. I don't know if anyone reads them, apart from checking to see if the APA format is perfect. I was idealistic enough to want to get something out of my papers.

I seem to recall taking 2 classes a semester, and turning in a lot of work, ie papers, late. I worked full time, had a household to maintain. No kids.

Finding clinical preceptors was more of a royal pain than words can convey.

At one point, I got so depressed due to some of the situations I encountered along the way that I didn't take a class for a year.

My advice is not to be in a hurry. There is a huge chasm between being an RN and being an NP. It's a big shift. Take your time. Don't expect the program to prepare you.

Extensive self preparation is necessary or you won't be any good. My opinion.

There are stories here of people attending NP school full time and working full time. Sounds like a worthless piece of paper to me.

If your life is such that you can only take one course a semester, it might take 4 years to get your degree. It could be the best thing that ever happened, especially if you are gaining experience in your field along the way.

Don't be in a hurry. It takes what it takes.

I echo above - lots of variables. I went back to grad school with two teens and hubby at home and full time night shift (3 12's). I had 12 years of experience and didn't find it too difficult.

UTA Arlington is all online. Takes 31 to 36 months and approximately $30,000
