How much math??

I was wondering how many math classes am I going to have to take while I'm getting my BSN degree?? I'm horrible at math thats why I'm wondering :o

I guess it would depend on the school you attend. I was in a three year diploma program (last one to graduate from Ontario - now BSN is required to become registered here) and we had only one math class in first year (pass rate was 90%) however, 2 grade 12 maths or 2 Ontario Academic Credit (sort of like university preparation level) maths were required to get into the program.

I too was horrid at math in high school. Absolutely detested it. Couldn't make any sense out of it. Went to nursing school (ten years later, I might add) and math was EASY. Why? It made sense. Math in high school is quite abstract and you are always wondering what it has to do with anything. Math in nursing school is very tangible - it makes sense because you can understand what you are doing with it - i.e. dosage calculations, drip rates, etc. It makes sense because you can actually apply it. Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly - but math in nursing school was easy - just learn your formulas and you will do great.

Go to the school you intend to attend and get the degree plan from them. That will give you your answer.

there ARE remedial math/algebra classes available to those who need it, worry not. I had to have college algebra for mine. That was all.

I had basic math, stats, and I also took some remedial math classes by choice (because I suck at math too). When you get into nursing school you have to take a dosage calculations test which is very easy because of the formulas and conversion factors you memorize. It's not too much math in nursing at all. But, I do agree with the previous posters. You should definately get a degree plan and a course catalog from the school you are going to/ will go to.

Thanks everyone :)

I'm going to start at the University of Texas at Austin in the Summer 2005 so i guess I have time to find out all the info that I need.

College algebra and statistics required for my program.

You will really need math for any chemistry courses you will have to take! :uhoh21:
