Just curious how long it took everyone to chart their first admission. I did my first one last night and it took me 3-1/2 hours!! I'm hoping that's not too far from normal for the first one, and I'm also hoping that I'll be able to whittle that down to about an hour eventually. Is that possible? How long does it take all of you experienced nurses to chart it? How long before I feel really comfortable with it?

Thanks!

My company gives only one admit for the first time you do one..that's your day. One admit. The experienced nurses can do the in home part of a basic admit in about an hour but it still takes them one or two more at home to get all the info into the computer.

Good luck

It is overwhelming at first isn't it? I've been in home health for awhile now but only recently as an RN and after the 1st admission I was ready to remain an LPN!:uhoh21: My first few were 2 1/2 -3 hrs but they do get faster, especially when you get good at charting quicker in the home and can bring a little less home with you! You'll get there!;)

Can anyone suggest an online nursing school. just got my associates in dec and starting to look for bsn.

as far as how long to do an admission, we are still on pen/paper system...when i do an admission, i take 15 minutes and fill out as much as i can before i go to the home (demographics, my signatures etc), you will be surprised how this simple process makes the admission go quicker...on some occasions i did not do this and it seemed to take me forever to just write the pts name on all the oasis pages.....i can usually do an admission in 2 hrs, from start to finish...some tho are longer esp if there are multiple phone calls to make.....there is no way around it.....it is time consuming!!

I know I spent all shift working on my first one, just to be sure it was done correctly. It always depends on the patient. Some adimissions are really quick and easy and some are just full of problems.

I had to reply to this post. My first admission took 4 hours. The gentleman had tubes everywhere/medically complex vent etc. I thought at the time, I was not very good about doing it, but after I got my feet wet I realized it was fairly common ( intaking so long).
