How did you know it was the right job for you?

Hello everyone,

as I continue on my job search. I would like to know how did you know it was the right job for you? was it a gut feeling? the environment, the pay etc. So far in my career I have selected jobs that provided great experiences but were not a good fit, resulting in me leaving after many tearful mornings and even tears on my day. I just don't know how to find or select the right job. I am tried of job hopping, I want to settle down.

I was burned out in LTC. I just didn't want to live my life being totally stressed out all the time. So I decided to take a pay cut and do private duty home care. I have only one patient and one family to deal with and it's worth it!!!! Having only one patient has been a blessing for me.;)

I got burnt out on my last job. I was a school nurse in a very chaotic middle school--gangs, guns, drugs, pregnancy (!) These kids were 11-14 and they beat the starch out of each other on a daily basis. The admins were less than supportive and finally I just couldn't take it anymore. I thought I was truly done with nursing...

And then a new job literally fell into my lap. A friend told me of a school nurse position in another district, looking for an elementary nurse. I had a lot of trepidation about it, but I liked what I heard. My first day on the job, everyone was so nice and welcoming. At first I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but the welcome has continued. They are just so glad to have me here! My days are mostly predictable and rarely do I have a child who has been injured by another child on purpose. I will probably stay at this school for a long time, maybe until I retire. :nurse:
