How do you know when to retest?

Published

It's been awhile since I last tested. I had taken a Kaplan review just before testing. I thought it helped some, but I still failed. I needed more content review, so I started Suzanne's plan. I feel more comfortable now using Saunders, but I still don't know when anybody feels ready to test again. How did you guys know when to test again?

I think that personally for me that if I failed the NCLEX, I would invest the $50 (I believe that is the cost), to have my test analyzed to see my areas of weakness. I would also make sure to get a test date sooner versus later. Think of the success you have already had...YOU GRADUATED FROM NURSING SCHOOL!!! That is a wonderful thing. Many wonderful nurses have failed the NCLEX the first time (possibly more) and have gone on to successfully pass.

Unfortunately the NCLEX is a necessary evil that you must do to practice nursing...it by no means says that if you don't pass on the first time you won't be a good nurse.

Go back to the books and get ready for your retest!

Where do you go to get your test analzed? I have my report where it says I was near passing in all of them or is this something different.

I am exactly on the same boat as you, Heedy11. Hang in there. By the time I retake, I'd be out of nursing school for 5 months. I constantly review everyday and do questions. Kaplan was good, but I feel I needed more help with answering questions strategically. I had nearly passing on the contents. Only you know how well you prepared for the test. It's different if you slacked off and thought you would pass and didn't....One thing I have to do is to take all of the negative thinking and start believing in myself and have confidence in myself. And that's something I lack...Success is all about trials and errors...Good luck and hang in there.

I think you will know yourself when you are ready to resit, the key is not to rush
