How do you know if you don't have a contract?

I'm new to traveling. I got an offer from a hospital for my first contract but then I kinda chickened out and turned it down. It was only $1,300 a week anyway which is pretty much my current staff salary. My recruiter called me about another contract at a different hospital that is way more attractive. However it's been 2 weeks since I've been submitted and I haven't heard anything. Does your recruiter call to say you were rejected for a job or do you just never hear anything?

Pretty much you can forget about that assignment at this point. Perhaps your recruiter as well. Generally after you've been submitted you should check in with your recruiter after three or four days without an interview.

Your recruiter should do the same and clearly he is not being professional. He may have given up on you. New travelers with staff jobs are hard to launch what with indecision and notice time. Doesn't excuse his behavior, just putting that out there. Hopefully you are getting that it is bad to put all your eggs in one basket?

Where do you work that you get $1,300 after taxes weekly?

I work night shift at a NYC hospital.

You may make the same at your current staff position but you have to consider that the cost of living elsewhere is not nearly as high. So while you may be making the same you should still essentially be "making" money if that makes any sense...
