How do I know if it is right for me?

Hi! I am a 35 year old male, who is not much of a science person. With that being said every where turn the thought of nursing keeps coming back to me. At the age of 18 I was involved in a car accident that nearly took my life. During my 75 day stint at the hospital I had some really wonderful nurses that really helped me get through it. I am a single parent with 2 young boys. I have started taking some of the prerequisite courses for a one year program offered at a local Univerisity. I think I have a lot to offer the field from my personal experience and really think I would enjoy. But I am very hesitant, I am afraid that I won't be able to get through the program. Is it possible to be a parent and a student, and an employee at the same time. And be successful at all of them.

Seriously, if it keeps nudging you, then it's right for you. You won't know about the program until you try. If you fail, you fail, but at least you tried.

as far as being a parent, student, employee, etc., MailWomen :lol2: have been doing it all along (and other MailMen :lol2: as well). Go for it. You can do whatever your heart desires. I'm a wife, mother, and full-time employee as well, and I've been in school for 1 1/2 years now. Some single mothers that I know work full time, and attend school fulltime. It's a big challenge but you can do it. Your experience was a wake up call for you (and many others who decided to enter the Nursing field) so just take one step at a time and give it your all.

...and like you said, you have a lot to offer. Just give it a try.
