WEll, i go to a community college in reno, nevada right now and planning to move to SD (my fiances is in the navy) I will finish all the prereq here but again, i dont know how hard it is to get into the nursing program.
I looked over the website and see that everything is based on point system? So I was wondering who that apply to the program, what are you guys point? and Where did SDSU cut off at? How competitve is it?
Another question that I have is that if you have 60 hours volunteer or work in the health care field, do you automatically get 10 or 15 points (i am not sure) ????
What do you have to get on TEAS test?
I really want to get into the program!!!! :)
Thank you so much in advance

Hi, I went to an orientation program this summer at SDSU nursing school that the dean of admissions gives 4 or 5 times a year (highly recommended) and it helped a lot. She said the cutoff point for last semester was pretty close to 67 points. The volunteer points are an all or nothing thing, so all you need to do is make sure your work is appropriate/approved and documented of course.
She said around 1 in 4 applicants end up with the needed points each semester. As far a TEAS points and scores go they are still working that out since TEAS is a new thing at SDSU Nursing they will need a couple semesters to float the score/points a bit to see how many of the 15 points they need to give for an 85% for instance that will make the point system function best. I am finishing my last prereq this semester and then will take TEAS. My goal is 71 points.
You can find orientation scheduling on the Nursing website, hope this helps a little.
Good luck,
Paul
btw I used the wrong term in my 1st post (sleepy) when I used the word orientation (which is what the new nursing students go through just before the 1st semester). What I should have called it is a "group advising session". In my case the group was only about 10 people who sat and listened to the nursing dean of admissions and then asked any and all questions they had.
I think I will have 71 points too, do you think that it will be ok since it cuts off around 67 points. So one more question though, how many general biology and organic chem worth if you get A's in those classes? So if I take TEAS test, I will get full points for that. Thank you for your reply! :)

I know that for Biology, an A is 10 points, B is 7 points. Also, for Organic Chemistry you need to have at least a C- or better, but no points are counted for O Chem (sucks because I'm actually getting an A in that class.)
