grossmont college waiting list
Hi Melindy, thanks for the empathy. I will hit the 3 year mark in 2 days and appreciate your comments and thoughts. As you know it's not easy living in long-term limbo. I think I will get in under the old system, but my gpa is high so hope I would get in under the new system as well. This is a real transition time for Grossmont ASN admissions, and I do hope they can improve it during this change. On the other hand I know they owe (especially 2-3 year folks) a lot more than they seem to be offering at this point, as far as information and opportunities goes. I think this may have to change. Please continues to relate what you see and hear on campus, THANKS, Paul

No nothing substantial at all... I did get a call from them last week though to tell me I needed to take TEAS by the end of March. Have you learned anything? Paul

grossmont college waiting list
Hi again, I think you and I are pretty close as far as Fall 10 goes. This is a somewhat eduacted guess based on all the info I can get from all sources (for what that's worth). About the new point system I don't think the grid on Grossmonts site is specific enough in regards to exact course numbers to be able to predict points right now. I do have more A's than B's so I have some confidence I could make it work out if I had to but hope to get admitted under the old guidelines if I can. One thing for sure though is I will try to get a little more reliable information in the next week before I get too excited or worried about the whole thing... Best of luck, and hang in there :) Paul

grossmont college waiting list
Hi, I also have been on the waiting list since May 2007. The letter I was sent by Grossmont nursing dated 2-17-2010 the way I read it says that although the wait list is closed it will be buissness as usual for the Fall 10 selections. Meaning that 100 percent of that class will be chosen based on the now closed waiting list. The letter from Grossmont also lays out how 25 percent of the next 4 semesters following Fall 10 would also come from the old waiting list. In my opinion both you and I are in pretty good shape all and all... Don't you agree? Good Luck :) Paul

San Diego State Univ BSN program ques
Nobody is on a waiting list at SDSU (really), so how could waiting be taken into account if nobodys waiting? If there is no waiting list, how can someone be waiting for a couple semesters? Each semesters selections (based on highest points) does not have anything to do with who did or did not get selected (based on highest points) say, three semesters ago. Does this help at all?

How hard is it to get in SDSU?
btw I used the wrong term in my 1st post (sleepy) when I used the word orientation (which is what the new nursing students go through just before the 1st semester). What I should have called it is a "group advising session". In my case the group was only about 10 people who sat and listened to the nursing dean of admissions and then asked any and all questions they had. Paul

How hard is it to get in SDSU?
Hi, I went to an orientation program this summer at SDSU nursing school that the dean of admissions gives 4 or 5 times a year (highly recommended) and it helped a lot. She said the cutoff point for last semester was pretty close to 67 points. The volunteer points are an all or nothing thing, so all you need to do is make sure your work is appropriate/approved and documented of course. She said around 1 in 4 applicants end up with the needed points each semester. As far a TEAS points and scores go they are still working that out since TEAS is a new thing at SDSU Nursing they will need a couple semesters to float the score/points a bit to see how many of the 15 points they need to give for an 85% for instance that will make the point system function best. I am finishing my last prereq this semester and then will take TEAS. My goal is 71 points. You can find orientation scheduling on the Nursing website, hope this helps a little. Good luck, Paul

Anatomy Class
I took anatomy 18 months ago in a program that used cats for disection and would like to add my 2 cents. Everybody is sqeamish in different ways at different times so try not to pigeon hole yourself until you really find out what is tough for you. For me it was the very beggining with the cat in a bag in front of me waiting to be pulled out. This was probably my toughest time although I'll never know why. We worked in groups of 2-3 students and after the "dead cat in bag nasea" I did just fine for the weeks we worked on our cats. I think everyone brings different strenghts at different points in disection. My strategy I think became to always do as much work as I could for as long as I could and then let (or ask) someone else to step in when I needed a break from it. What I'm trying to say is that you will probably do better than you thought you would, everybody is a little different and has highs and lows at mostly different points for unknown reasons, and don't sell yourself short prior to really finding out first hand what is most difficult for you. Hang in there and work with your group and you'll do fine :) Paul...
