HIPPA issues

I am looking for answers~

My facility fired me after 20+ years of service for an alleged HIPPA violation. There is no proof I did this---only the accuser's words versus mine. Yet---my employer sided with the visitor.

I feel that I was not fully informed of what the accusations were against me by administration and that the outcome would have been very different if I had been able to say more.

Now I have a HIPPA violation on my termination paper.

I am scared on how this can/will affect my future employment. I have never been reprimanded/disciplined on the 20+ years at my job.

I feel that this punishment was way too harsh for an alleged first time offense. I did not do what I am accused of- and a polygraph test would show this. My employer declined to do this.

What can I do?

Contact your state BON. A HIPAA violation could be frowned upon by future employers. Perhaps they could advise you as to what you should/could do.

If you feel you have a case you can also contact an attorney. If it didn't happen, I wouldn't want it on my record.

Am I getting this right- you worked for this facility for more than 20 years, and now because a visitor says you said something that violated HIPAA you were fired? What exactly happened- was there any damage done?

I would consult an attorney if I were you. Is there more to this story?

:yeahthat: I agree with everything that Lori says. You didn't mention if you are in a union or not. If you are, they could probably help you. Either way, you need to get a lawyer ASAP for some legal help.

Best of luck to you...
