Hickory NC

Can anyone tell me about Hickory? I had planned on moving to Greenville but was offered a job in Hickory making pretty good money. I really wanted to stay closer to the ocean but the money does sound good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hickory is a beautiful old city...with great shopping, quaint eating places, etc. Also has some of the best furniture shopping around :)

Truthfully, though, I don't know much about *living* there as we've only visited for the day..

I LOVE Hickory! I grew up in a smaller town near there, called Conover. I actually live in greenville now! Would love to move back up that way once DH finishes nursing school.

Hickory is a decent size city. It's in a wonderful location. You're an hour from Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem, and Boone. You're still only 5 hours from the beach (in NC, dont know how far it is from there to SC beaches). I wouldn't recommend living right in Hickory. When we move back, we will probably live in a smaller town nearby. Conover, Newton, Granite Falls... Housing is fairly inexpensive. $150K will buy a really good size house!

Best wishes with the move- hopefully I'll be joining you in a few years. I would love to work at Catawba (I grew up volunteering there)!

I want to go to Catawba Valley CC. Do you know anything about their nursing program? My hubby is from Taylorsville and I KNOW I don't want to move to that small of a town. :) From what I can read online, it seems their program starts after May. I will not be there until Oct. 06 because I am finishing up my degree in surgical technology in Georgia. I am hoping I can get into their program... I can't wait to get out of GA. :)
