Discussion

Hi everyone

Am new to this site. Looking for anyone who has taken the CEN, and passed. What resources did you use? Looking for all the help I can get. Thanks. Carolyn

Good luck to you. I'm not sure what CEN is, but you might choose another forum to ask as this is the "Introductions" forum.

Good luck.

Welcome to Allnurses! I'm moving your thread to the Emergency Nursing Forum for more responses. Good luck to you.

Ahhh....Certified Emergency Nurse....thanks Eric. :)

I actually took it this afternoon. I initially took it 8yr ago, then 4yr ago I recertified by using CEUs. That's what I should have done this year, but I waited too long to submit my CEUs.

The test is 175 questions, but of those, 25 don't count towards your score. Those are questions that are being evaluated to be used on future tests. So out of 150 questions, you have to get 109 correct. You have three hours to finish the test. It's computerized.

I think this test was harder than the one I took 8yr ago. That's just my subjective opinion.

It's difficult to study for this test because it covers such a wide variety of knowledge. I think this is why they want you to have several years of ER experience. It seemed to me that there was a lot of what I consider Fast Track questions this time. Questions about wound healing/ suture removal and lots of ortho questions. There were also several about mass casuality,

I'm sure there weren't any the first time I took it. And you need to know blood gases inside and out.

I did use Lippincott Q & A Certification Review. It has a CD ROM that you can download that has 391 questions on it. You also need to know your ACLS and PALS pretty good.

Good luck!
