anyone have opinion on accuracy of those web sites that give stats on salary based on geography & specialty?
i'm a bsn w/4 yrs exp returning after >10 yrs but recently took refresher incl. clinical rotation (& got acls)
(yay!) today i got job offer @ $26/hr (boo!) for telemetry for chicago (near suburbs) and that sounds low. they said their new grad rate is $24 (another hosp mentioned 25-26) and, no signing bonus. i mean, we all get recruiting postcards advertising $26-27 new grad rate, and i think exper. worth a little more. am i way out off base here? not sure how to respond. hard to make a commitment to something that's less than i made in 1991. ideas? examples?

west suburban med center starts at $26, as all res. hospitals do.
sorry, i didnt see that you had 4 years of experience. those rates are for new grads.

those stats sounds about right to me. unfortunately in nursing new grads make very close to what nurses with 4-5 years of experience make. it takes a while to get to 30/hr. but if you work pm or noc shift you can increase your pay alot..working nocs can increase your pay by as much a 10k a year. then of course there is registry which is what alot of people choose. in registry you can make minimum 30-50/hr. the down side is no benefits, no sick time and no guarantee of hours.

you made over 26/hr in '91??. new grads were starting at 17-18/hr in 1999 in chicago. was that registry??? and if you made that much i think you should present it to recruiters and see what they can negotiate for you.

Unfortunately, you have been out of nursing for >10 years (if I read correctly). I know that you took refreshers, but a lot will have changed in 10 years. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the offer on the table?
No, my '91 salary wasn't hourly - that was working as a manager + a little perdiem on the side. But it's hard to not be anchored to some good old days (in a sense) when the bills were not quite as hard to pay!
Thanks for all the input, everybody - MOST appreciated!
