Hesi Hints

My school also requires hesi exit exam and you only get two tries as well. Like you, I failed the first time. I needed a score of 850 and I got an 841. I was devastated! So I know how you feel. I just took it again yesterday and scored a 1018!!!! So I am officially out! Anyway, the version is just determined by whichever one your school wants to give you at the time, it's not like hesi decides which one you get. Umm, to prepare this second time...I did the nclex 3500, the peds and med-surg questions on the hesi cd (the new one), and a read a couple of chapters in saunders and whatever I read in saunders I read in the hesi book. I did not read the whole saunders book just what I felt like I was weak in!!! Also, if you go onto the evolve website, there is something that you can purchase called hesi practest and that helped as well. The first time I took hesi I knew my information, I was just nervous. You cannot let the test get to you, and you just have to have a positive attitude and enough confidence in yourself. Also, the 2nd time around, I realized that there are clues in the questions and they also have some very good distractors!!! So make sure you really pay attention and eliminate. Don't choose your answer from all four answer choices. It helps!!!!

Also, read, read, and re-read the question if you have to! There were a couple of questions that I had to read like three times to really get what it was asking!!! If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know. Trust me, I know how you feel! It was very hard for me to pick myself back up after failing the first time, but I had to, because I was not going to let this test defeat me! And at my school, if you didn't complete it the second time, you had to do another semester in school, and besides that, I just had a lot riding on passing. Anyway, don't stress out, and the day of the test just keep a clear, cool mind and make sure you just take it one question at a time and don't think about the test in its entirety, just make sure you focus on the question at hand and nothing else. You can and you will do it!!! Its just a test!!! Good luck!

wow! congrats people! I too failed exit HESI the first time around. (I got 818 and need 850) I agree that nerves got the best of me. I look back and realized I made stupid mistakes I will retake it Aug. 21. I also found wher evolve does a review session so I signed up for that! Wish me luck...I need it.

Our school district offered the Evolve review to us, they actually made it mandatory for us to attend in order to sit for HESI. I found it helpful, the instructor was really good at breaking down the information that I thought was pertinent to passing that exam. Our school also gave us the Sylvia Rayfield review which was EXCELLENT. Sylvia Rayfield is the co author of the Nursing Made Insanely Easy books with all the funny caricatures and pneumonics that really stick in your brain. Theirs was the best review I have attended thus far and I may just pay for it myself and take it again before I take my state boards. Good luck to you on your second try. If I can do it you can too. I scored an 818 on my first time also, and as my post says, I scored a 1032 on the second and final try. It is doable (if that's a word. lol). Just stick with the HESI and Saunders books and you will do just fine. And do questions, questions, questions, I'm sure you have heard that one a million times. And you must have confidence. That's one of the most important factors, just knowing that you can do it, and you can. You didn't make it through nursing school on your good looks. I hope.lol.
