Hi. I'm a new grad rn with bsn and I just got hired and I am scared as hell. How do I alleviate my anxiety? When I am anxious , I cannot process information well so i miss details. I will be working at psych hospital. How do I activEly listen well when someone talks to me? It can be hard too bec English is my second language.
Note : I graduated from the US and been here since I was 13 years old.

I think it's normal to feel really nervous about your first job, especially in nursing where you hold a lot of responsibility. I have found that taking a few minutes alone during a busy shift (in the bathroom, supply room, wherever you can!) just to re-center and take a few deep breathes, drink some water and head back out to the floor can really help. Try to find some trusted allies that you feel comfortable asking when you have questions or need help. I am not a psych nurse but I really admire those who work in psych. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Eighty to ninety percent of new grads feel exactly like you. I felt that way the first year. and I'm "born in the USA" as Bruce would say.
Do what LibraNurse suggested. Take a deep breath and remind yourself, "It's normal to be scared s***less".
