    I would ask if your search can be broadened to say, "... modern patient care." That will open up a great many opportunities to look at nurses. The biggest one is Florence Nightingale. Look up what she contributed to nursing education, public health statistics, hospital design, sanitation, and many other things that have continued to benefit patient care to this day. It will give you an enormous appreciation of what nursing can do.
