Hi. I am a Canadian and I hold a RPN license in Ontario. I have been unsuccessful in finding a job in my hometown and all over Ontario. So I decided to try over in Michigan and recently got my RN license. I have been looking for a job in Michigan since end of March. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
P.S.: I have been applying everywhere in Michigan online.
Hi.
I have reached out for some help regarding resume writing and jobs (mostly on jobs and what to do better). But I haven't gotten any replies, so I thought I'd try again.
I am a Canadian RPN and I graduated in 2011. I have been looking for work since then (mostly in hospitals and nursing homes). Of course, with today's job market, I have been unable to find anything at all and it's now 2013. So I thought it would be best for me to try over in Michigan as both my parents work there. I got my RN license in March and have been fruitlessly trying to land myself a job on both sides (Michigan and Ontario). I mostly apply for Med-Surg units and nursing homes.
Needless to say, I'm at my wit's end here, trying to land myself a job. If any of you have any advice (constructive please, and please don't put me down) for me, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Threads merged and moved to nursing resume assistance to elicit further response. Good luck. It could also be a limited number of jobs available in the area/high competition/high unemployment. I know the Detroit area is mixed for job availability. Have you expanded your search outside of hospitals to include long term care, long term acute care.

Are you tailoring each resume you send out to fit what the specific employer is looking for? Also are you submitting a job specific cover letter with each resume?
Well, my resume's pretty general for an entry level nurse. I try to keep it in a way so that the resume seems to be a fit for all employers. And I always attach a cover letter with each resume.
