Help!

if you can get into a lvn program it would probably lead you into program down the road..i know a lot of people who began as lvn and now have masters or are working toward it

an lvn license will give you practical experiencee and an income while working on other achievements

Do you think it would be easier to work on the BSN program if I already was an LVN? More flexible schedule, etc?

If I were you, I would go ahead and try to get those 2 courses completed in the shortest semesters possible. Maybe the Mini-mester or may mester courses, if those courses are available. Some community colleges will offer them at times. Don't give up! You will be glad that you did it when you have an RN after your name. LVN would not be a bad choice as well, but for the goals that you stated, I think you would be glad that you went the RN route the first time. If the courses are not available, you could try taking them in the Spring & Summer & apply in Fall 2007. Sometimes, nursing schools will let you apply if you are enrolled in the courses.

If I were you, I would take the courses. You can do them one course at a time. I am sorta like you; I work 40 hours a week, have a 10 year old son and I am starting a BSN program in Jan 07. I have completed all my pre-req's by taking one science class at a time. I got the hardest one out of the way first which was Chemistry for me and then finished up with Micro in May of this year. I would go ahead and go straight for the RN. Since you have until Spring 2008, I would take Chemistry Spring 2007 and Micro Fall 2007. If you can, you may want to consider taking Micro Summer 2007, but I don't do well with summer science courses, so it's strictly up to you. I would just concentrate on taking one science class at a time and put my all into that class to get an A. Most nursing schools look at your hard-core sciences before anything else. I would say to go ahead and take your pre-req's so that you can get apply to get in the BSN program. You stated you want to head to Medical School someday and I think that's the perfect route for you.

Do you have a very high GPA currently? If you aren't very close to a 4.0, then I think the LVN route is a great idea. The programs aren't as competitive, you can start right away and eventually do the bridge programs. There won't be as much pressure to get the A's in Micro and Chemistry.

Yeah, I feel like I am drowning. I started out taking 4 classes this semester, but it has come down to me dropping two (the sciences) and failing the other two (due to getting behind on the work). I am very disappointed with myself and my situation. I was doing well in school up until this semester (my GPA before these two failing grades get posted is a 3.71 - not the best, but not too bad). I am currently working a different job than I was before this semester, and I don't know if it's the job plus the school work or if I'm in burn-out mode or if it's a combination of the two (or if it's other factors).

I had almost made up my mind to just take the sciences one class at a time, but since I've messed up my Statistics class now, I'm back to seriously contemplating the LVN route. I like the idea of being in the field plus maybe a more flexible schedule would help me get closer to my eventual goals. My next question is, since I am the main money-maker in our family, what are my options for paying the bills while I'm in school all week? I know I can take a part-time job, but that won't support us. I've heard of loans you can take out on top of your school loans for situations like this where it's hard to hold down a well-paying job because of school. Do any of you have any experience with this?
