Hey fellow nurses. I am taking a BSN research course and I am trying to find some good info. on alcohol-based hand sanitizers that we use in the health care setting.
I remember I had heard once before that waterless hand hygiene products are only effective for use for approximately 5-7 times...after this it builds a film on the hand making the product ineffective without proper hand washing with soap and water. Maybe I am crazy and thought I heard it.
Does anyone think this would be a good idea for a research proposal topic? I am open to any suggestions and appreciate it greatly!

I think this is a good topic for a research paper. You can find plenty of research for this topic on the research databases offered by your school such as CINAHL (I think those are the right letters). My suggestion to you is to check out the library and ask the staff for some help in using the research databases. Good luck.

Go to http://www.pubmed.gov and enter search criteria, " hand hygiene alcohol".
Lots of articles there. It's a good research topic, but make sure to address how alcohol-based sanitizers are not recommended for pt's with C. diff. (Clostridium difficile makes spores, the alcohol sanitizer just rubs the spores around. Hand washing with water rinses the spores off.)
Good luck,

Hi,
Did you ever do this research project?? Sounds good. I am currently in a 5 week research course and need to find a good research project on something that will actually be helpful, but is manageable. Thanks for your help.
