help! pre-req grades

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently taking human physiology at a community college.I also have my LVN license. I am extremely stressed out because the drop date with a "W" is today. I have a B- in the course. I don't know if I should stick with my B or drop with a "W" and retake it next semester to get an A. I am pretty positive I can get an A if i retake it. I am planning on applying to Cal State and UC's like UCLA in California. I don't know which one would make me more competitive. Any input would help alot thanks in advance!

You should still have plenty of time to get your grade up to an A. Maybe ask for extra credit?

There's only one exam left :( and he's only offering the class 8 extra credit points which won't make a huge difference.

I was in your position and, while it does vary from school to school, my advisor said a B- looks much better than a W on your transcript. Just blow that next exam out of the water and talk to your professor about your grades. :) Professors tend to reward students who are passionate about their class.

I say stick with it & try to do really well on the next exam. B- isn't bad!

I know I might be in the minority here...but I would go with the "W".

As someone who has gotten into UCLA for Pre-Med and has had one W...I would rather take the W than a B-. Plus I've also worked for Graduate Admissions (for a department in UCLA) and know a lot of friends who work in Undergraduate Admissions as well...and as far as I know, as long as there isn't an excessive amount of W's (three or MORE) then they disregard them. I know that some super competitive Graduate Programs count "W"'s as "C"'s...so do be careful with that! Overall though, if you're looking to get into a SUPER (seriously, SUPER) competitive school such as UCLA (and trust me, it's so competitive) then you NEED to have a 4.0 GPA, there's NO doubt about that.

Best of luck in your decision, I know what you feel! I had to drop my first ever Chemistry course because I just knew I wouldn't get a decent grade (had medical/personal reasons as well)...but I retook it later and got my A!

Stick it out, and study very hard for the next exam.... :bookworm:

"W's" in the sciences with some colleges will reduce your points

trying to get into the nursing program. Either way, what ever you decide

will be the best route for you... For what it is worth I had dropped my

Human Physiology class because I was getting a B grade towards the end of the class

and I freaked out and pulled out of the class... I wished I never did that, as I now, I have a "w"

grade and now have to retake the class... That "w" takes a -.5 against me, which now I have to get an A grade this time...

I would of been better off with the B grade and put more effort into the other science class with an A grade.

Hang in there if you can?

Take care.

Many blessings your way.
