How long is the process from studying nursing (already have a medical degree) to taking the local boards to passing the NCLEX and then finding an employer in the US?

How much is the approximate cost?

What are the good nursing schools in Manila/Makati area?

I am having a hard time to decide if I would have to take first the Medical Boards before I study nursing (advantage of studying nursing now, it will save me 1 year since internship is 1 year). Please advice me.

Thanks!

Two years of nursing training, then the wait for transcripts so that you can start the process of working in the US. You will need to take the NCLEX exam, as well as pass the series of English exams, as well as get a Visa Screen Certificate.

So, you are looking at minimum of three years before you will be working in the US, or around that.

Not sure of the cost where you are. Perhaps someone else can help with that.

I think RCAP is one of the best Review Center in Philippines. I reviewed in RCAP April - May2004 and I passed my Local RN exam for the first try. Pray and have Faith God is Faithful.! Goodluck!

Ag1 you might want to factor in additional time to your schedule...conditions for obtaining a visa (assuming that you do not already have one right now) might drastically change by the time you graduate. As of March 2006, the US state department reported 20,000 Schedule a Visas remaining from the original 50,000 they alloted for nurses and PT's last year..if demand proceeds at the current rate, the state department predicts the number to be used up by the 1st quarter of fiscal year 2007. That corresponds to Oct to Dec 2007. If US Congress does not increase the number of visas they allot for nurses in the immigration bill currently being debated in the US, there will be a backlog. Visa bulletin for regular E-3 visas for june 2006 show they are processing applicants whose papers were filed last july 2001 if my memory serves me right. Thats a 5 year backlog.

good grief, doc. you really want advice on what to do when you grow up? these are life changing questions that you ought to have heard answers to when you were at med school or even at the hospital! you serious? :uhoh3:
