I am an over qualified LPN in USA...as in critical care certified, ACLS, PALS....and yes I have worked in all of these areas. My question is this....do I have any qualifications to work in UK, and as what? I really want to move over there but first need to know if I will be able to make a living. Thanks!!

I wish I could answer your question, but I have a different idea. See about taking the "Clep" exam, college level equivalency program given at a community college testing center at least once a month, you can buy prep books, as well as the ACT for Nursing exams, and challenge your nursing knowledge for credit. It is obvious you are a good test taker. Some colleges give credit for life experience, and transition yourself from LPN to RN. I know many who have done this in very little time. You can apply for pell grants to assist you. A well rounded LPN can do this by just snapping their fingers. Make an appointment with an academic advisor and see where it takes you. You go girl (or boy) and tell me how it worked out. Best wishes,
Barbara

Firstly i dont fully understand your ststem i.e APN'S LPN'S but here in uk all trained staff are RN'S in their chosen branch. I'm not sure what your qualification means over here, whether you have to do a conversion course. I'm sure someone on here will help you.
Good luck :)

Hiya
Im a US trained nurse that has been working and living in Scotland since 1999...
I think that the equivalent of the LPN here in the UK would be the EN(Enrolled Nurse) though i'm not positive..
Check out the Nursing Midwifery Council website it should at least have a email or phone number that could be called to inquire about what the equivalent would be and/or what would be needed to work here in the UK.

i think thats the homepage addy. if not just do a search for Nursing Midwifery Council

Hi
This is taken from the NMC website, which is the regulatory body for registered nurses in the UK.
The NMC is only enabled by law to accept applications from holders of first level qualifications. We will not be able to accept your application if you hold any of the following or equivalent qualifications:
enrolled nurse
enrolled midwife
licensed practical nurse (LPN)
vocational nurse
community nurse
state certified nurse
staff nurse (South Africa)
mother craft nurse
nursery nurse
If you do possess any of these qualifications then you are not currently eligible to apply for registration in the UK. However if you wish to pursue a career in nursing or midwifery in the UK and wish to retrain then you should contact NHS Careers .
Hope this helps.
