Help: Pathophysiology, endocrine function question

I'm going through my Patho notes, trying to figure out what I need to really study for my exam next week and I came across something I can't quite figure out. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but if I'm right, please explain the rationale. I have in my notes "if there is a decrease in the level of a hormone, the number of receptors for that hormone will increase."

Thanks! I figured it had something to do with the sensitivity to the molecule but I didn't really see any explanation in my notes.
