help with paper topic

Here is the assignment:

-research based paper. The ]theme of the research paper will be ]either] medications or interventions utilized in the

] care and treatment of one of the following:

] An Acute Cardiac, Gastrointestinal, Endocrine, Respiratory, Neurological, or Renal event

] approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Any idea's? I have thought of the bair hugger before and during surgery that they use, new oxygen therapy for headaches but can't really think of something that I would want to do. Anyone have any idea's? Thanks

No I dont think so but there might be more current information on it if it was

Home O2 therapy for chronic COPDers with CO2 retention? (Controversial because a lot of these pts are smokers. O2 plus smoking = a big boom! & because CO2 retainers can only tolerate small amounts of O2 before depressing their respiratory drive. So assessment + education are reallllly important/fundamental to the treatment/intervention.)

I just didnt know if anyone had heard of any new and upcoming interventions or medications. I am fairly inexperienced and thought that someone who is currently a nurse might have a suggestion about something I might see in my soon to be nursing career.

Also, if you are interested in reporting on some treatment that is new or cutting edge, I would browse the medicine or health headlines on the major news sites. Check the news items of the various medical and nursing journals. The surgeons are always coming up with new stuff. When drug companies come out with a new drug they market it to death and advertise it heavily in the medical journals.

I had heard somewhere about a year ago on the TV that some surgeon in South America was resecting (removing) the duodenum of diabetics to cure them of Type II diabetes. The surgery has not been approved in the U.S. Since I have had gastric bypass (the bypass includes detouring around the duodenum) and my diabetes has gone away as it does with may others who have this procedure I asked my surgeon about this at one of his informational meetings (he loves to talk about research). He knew all about what this particular surgeon was doing. It stems back to the side effects of the Billroth procedures and he went on about them and what they have found about the function of the duodenum.

Anyway, there is so much out there that I can't believe you won't find something. It is a matter of looking in the right places and how you want to put all the information together and present it. One of the things I learned to do early on in my BSN program was get familiar with the local medical school library. It was a little intimidating to be around medical students and doctors at first, but it was all in my mind and the librarians will help you find things. After a few times you get better at finding what you need. And, take your medical dictionary with you.
