Help..We have a disaster nursing topic and our instructor wants us to do a careplan on Knowledge Deficit r/t disaster planning AEB tornado. I have no clue where to start on this one...Any suggestions on interventions/ rationales/ goals? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That doesn't sound like a very good "nursing diagnosis". Ha ha ha! I guess some interventions could be listening to a weather radio, getting in a storm shelter, going to an interior room on the lowest level without windows, jumping in a ditch and covering your head if you're in your car, etc. Goal is knowing what to do in case of a tornado? But how do you measure that? We were always told that goals had to be measurable. Maybe this will give you somewhere to start though.

Agree with previous poster... interventions all are going to be teaching based so teaching the person how to prepare for a disaster - what is an appropriate shelter for a tornado, diff. between watch and warning, getting a weather radio, having extra batteries, and having a plan for their family on where they would meet after a natural disaster. As for rationales, just use common sense. As I learned in nursing school, rationales are hard only if you make them hard. Eg - Purchasing a weather radio (rationale: in case power goes out during a storm, you will still know if you need to take cover). Goals could be having the person be able to recite a plan back to you on what they would do to prepare and what they would do in the event of a tornado warning. Also, goals could be having the patient buy necessary supplies - batteries, radio, first aid kit, etc.

So what you're saying is that you have a knowledge-deficit about your knowledge deficit...
