I am starting nursing school in two weeks, I've planned to quit my job and dedicate myself to studies during this next 16 months. I have F.Aid, and a Staford loan, but I need more money if I want to survive all the program by my own, do any one of you know where can I request an independent student loan??? please help me!!

Thaks,

Im in the same boat. I took out a private loan through the Student Loan Network..Heres the link. I had a hard time at first because my school is a smaller school and was not on many lenders school lists (Sallie Mae, Wachovia). Luckily this company offers private loans for my school...

Good luck!:wink2::specs:

i have used salliemae, astrive, thinkstudentloan and my sister used chase bank. be careful though, i have taken out way more than i should to avoind fighting about the money situation with my husband, but he doesnt make enough to support us or his spending habits and we have 2 kids who qualify for healthy start if i don't work. i still have 2 years left(nursing classes only) but i dont even want to think about the money i'm gonna have to pay back when i graduate!!

I used Astrive.

I used my bank - Wells Fargo. They did require my parents to cosign however.

Also, you may want to check into apprenticeships. At my school, we are eligible to work in the hospital after first semester. Even if you don't work too much and don't make entirely enough to cover all your bills; a little something is better than nothing.

THANK YOU to all of you that reply!!!!!!!!!!!!:heartbeat

I am trying to calm down!! and take things easy! I am doing a budget plan for this 16 months coming, this way I can know exactly how much do I need to borrow in order to cover my expences. (I have no one so I have to cover everything by my own)

Your sudgestions have been great!!! I have reseach already some of it online.

Thank U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:up:

Discover Student Loans gives you a 2% reward bonus when you graduate (just like their credit cards!), which means they will reduce your balance due by 2% upon graduation. I do believe they require a co-signer for private student loans, though. Here's the link:

Good luck!

I just got a loan through Discover Student Loans and didn't require a cosigner. It was actually pretty pain-free.

Go to the WIA office in your state they pay 100% for nursing classes and books and you would get to keep your F. aid the one in alabama is located in the employment office, be worth a shot :yeah::nurse:

Did you take the secured and UNsecured loans? THis would give a bit more money to play with each semester.

What is the WIA? I'm from saint louis, missouri

this is for those who got the discover loans...Do you mind me asking what your intrest rate was? I've considered them, but I have like 5.5 with SallieMae, if its about the same I would change to them for the rest of my schooling.

workforce investment act. I don't know for sure if they have it in your state but I am thinking its nationwide, If you have been out of work for a while you would qualify, (there are other qualifications also) me I raised babies before going back to school so I had been out of the workfield for 10 years as a stay at home mom, call your local state employment office and ask:)
