HELP!!! I need to interview an RN for my nursing class

Published

Hi all!

I need to interview an RN for one of my nursing classes and don't personally know any. Would anyone be able to help? It can be completed (and must be submitted) anonymously.

If any one who has a few moments to answer the following questions, I sure would really appreciate it!

* How long have you been in your field?

* How did you select your field?

* What are your duties?

* What do you like best about your field?

* What do you like least about your field?

* What education did you need to work in your field?

* What promotions are available in your field?

* What health care areas have you worked in?

Do you have a nurse at your college or university? Are there nurses at your doctor's office? Is there a family planning or community health center in your area? School nurses at local high school and middle schools? Are any of your faculty members nurses? Are there any nurses at your clinical sites? Do you have a family member in assisted living or a nursing home?

Learning communication skills as a nurse is really important. You can't communicate with someone if you are posting a questionnaire on the internet to someone that you will never meet. These interview assignments are meant to help you become more comfortable speaking to someone that you don't know. It's also meant to help you network, and practice initiating communication and setting up a meeting. All of the places I listed above are great areas ways to find a nurse in your community that you can sit with an speak to in person.

If all else fails and you really can't find anyone to interview, ask to interview your instructor. I bet she is a nurse.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the reply. I actually already found an RN at my dermatologist office to interview. I had posted this as a backup in case I couldn't find someone to interview in person. I enjoyed the interview and the insight the RN gave me and it's nice to see that this forum has good people like you on it to help the student nurses.

Thanks again!

Great job! I'm glad you were able to get the in-person interview experience. When you meet with someone face to face, there is a lot more you can learn about them, and their job. Best of luck in nursing school, and I hope you find that All Nurses can be a good resource to you, when you need it.

I just read your post from back in November. It was excellent! I'm actually an older student who has gone back to school as a second career (and because it's always been a dream). I loved your perspective on PICU and the families... and as a mom of 4 sons, I can honestly say that you nurses who work with children are special angels. Take care and have a great weekend! PS... love your dogs!

Great advice Ashley!

The interview process is an integral part of the nursing process where it takes special skills to extract information for a patient of a personal nature and give it to a complete stranger. We are happy to help students here to lead them to deduct the right answer themselves.

I would also suggest calling a local school and set up a time, check by a Minute Clinic at the local drug store. Look up any local nurse practitioners in your area and I always suggest people looking to their own MD's officeGood Job!
