I have heard of a case where a patient was living at a nursing home and used a ventilator. I believe it was in Tuscaloosa. You might want to call some of the nursing home directors there and ask. Sorry, but I'm not sure of the details.

Hello, I hope I am on the right thread for this question.

I am trying to find out if Alabama nursing homes/health facilities/special care facilities, etc. care for a patient fitting this description:

26-year old female, quadripeligic. Her spine is crushed, requiring her to be on a ventilator for 4 hours each day (while she is sleeping).

Assuming her insurance/funding is taken care of, are Alabama facilities licensed to assist a patient of this nature?

I have been told there are no Alabama facilities that can/will take ventilator patients and I am trying to confirm this and find out more details.

If this is the case, where does the patient go?

I have also seen a couple of homes in Alabama that are equipped for this type of situation. If you would check with some of the nursing facilities in Cullman, they might be able to help you. There are approximately five or six in the Cullman County area. Good luck.

There is a nurse owned facility at Baptist Montclair at Birmingham that is similar to an acute care nursing home. I forget the name, but it is on the third floor and I know that they have many ventilator patients.

Look into Select Specialty in Butler Alabama. We have a select specialty in Johnstown Pa that take ventilator dependent patients as well as multiple trauma and wound care pt yet to ill to go to and extended care facility. It worth a try and if I don't have the town right(looking it up on internet) please look into it a little further, seems to be a good facility up here.

The floor that is at Montclair is also Specialty Select or Select Specialty. There is also a nursing home in Talladega that accepts vent patients.
