I have a big problem :-/ I am in my 4th semester of nursing school and just found out that I need an additional math class to graduate. I am due to graduate this December 2015. I was told yesterday by my school that I need to take intermediate algebra (Math 125) to graduate. So disappointed with such late notice. I am in California and was told by the BRN that if I take the NCLEX without my degree my license will always say "California non graduate" even after I graduate :-/ I am in desperate need of a online intermediate algebra class that will fulfill this requirement and that hopefully won't break the bank, lol

Can you take it online? Take it at an online community college. Out of state schools like Georgia Military College, Cayuga Community College, or UMUC have 8 week terms so you could bang it out quick, possibly before Dec. There are likely other schools with short terms as well, but I only know of these because I did most of my prereqs through them.

Will your school accept a CLEP test?
Yes, I believe I can take it online but I am not sure which of the online colleges are recognized and how to find that out. Do you know?
I was considering the CLEP test. Not sure how to go about studying for it. I did speak to an online institute today regarding that & they offer a mock exam.
What do you mean "recognized"? Locate the course you want to take at another school and then contact an academic advisor at your school and ask them if the course will fulfill their credit requirement..
CLEP is also a good option. There are books you can use to study as well as resources on the CLEP site.

Did you not see an advisor about your academic plan before now? Or did you not check that all courses were complete before you got this far? I do not intend to be rude by asking. I just don't understand how that gets missed all these years of your schooling. But I guess that's neither here nor there at this point. Whats done is done.
You just need to find an accredited college that offers online courses in an 8 week format for second half of the fall semester. Then ask an adviser at your school which math from those schools will be accepted. Take the course and then send your transcript from the other college to your graduating college.
Yes, I did see a counselor before I was accepted into the RN program and I was told that since I had a degree from another school I did not need to take the additional math class. Now that I am ready to graduate and submitted my graduation paperwork is when I was told that I do need an additional 5 unit math class. I was also told that I am still able to take the NCLEX but my license will be listed as a non graduate. Well, I have worked too hard for that. I know that there are several online college credit courses, but I have been told to be careful because often they are very expensive and the credits may not transfer. I just can not afford the time or $$ to invest in something that is not going to work. As for my school, my purpose is not to bad mouth the institution. I am frustrated/irritated that I have been misinformed multiple times. I did contact my school today and was told that I can take the placement exam and try to test out of the intermediate algebra, but that it was difficult.
I have an appointment next week with a counselor. Yes, I know it sounds easy to just ask if another schools class will fulfill the requirement, but unfortunately I have to make an appointment with a select few counselors to get an answer. Between class, exams, studying, and commuting my time is limited. I'm trying to get as much information as I can so that when I see the counselor next week I will be prepared
That's sucky that you got bad info. Sounds like you did what you needed to and still have trouble. Make sure when you go to the counselor you have the math classes available at other online schools printed out so they can review and give you a yes or no if they will accept it.
Years ago, I had nearly the same thing happen to me- but it was a 3 hour social science class. And it was just a couple weeks until graduation. Since I was an LPN in a psych unit- I went to the Abnormal Psych professor, pled my case and he gave me the final exam for that class. I'm not sure what I would have done. And BTW: This was a Big Ten university- so it can happen to anyone.
Sometimes it seems that there are so many obstacles. Just have to keep on moving forward
