Hi everyone. I been looking for work for almost 7 months now and I finally found a job. I feel like I forgot everything or kinda clueless about everything. Can someone please tell me what I should know because I know I cannot remember everything.

Please list the things I need to know and the COMMON things like Medication, OTC, S/S, TX. skills, etc...

the place Im working will only train me for 3 days. (Adult/Dementia pts).

(very Important) I also need to know HOW to call to "refill" or order a patients Meds. to a pharmacy..Please tell me steps by step what i need to tell them. since i never done this before. I dont know who to talk or what info i need to give them.

I also need to know how to call a doctor to make an appointment for a patient. what things i should tell the doctors/nurses. like what question he will be asking me.....

First of all...congratulations!! Don't worry, you will have orientation and they will teach you how to do those things because it varies according to your company's protocol. I just know that it will be a hard time at the begging because you don't know the patients and the doctors as well...but you will get the hang of it. I am a fairly new nurse too and I am still scared out of my wits everyday before I go to work. Best of luck to you on your new job! You can do it! Keep me posted on how you are doing. It's nice to hear from other new nurses too...It helps me keep my sanity :)

I know how you feel OP. I graduated in Aug 09 and started working in late April. I felt like I'd forgotten everything. I made a list of the meds I pass then reviewed them at home or at work if I had time. I also ask lots of questions and have another nurse in the room if I'm doing a skill that I haven't done in a long time.

Its really not as bad as you think its going to be.

thanks guys for the responds. well my few days was okay. I asked the RN most of the time. and since i havent done most of the skills I asked her to show it to me. I am just scared when something happend to my patient like when she start feeling something like vomitting or even choking. I am not a quick thinker so when something happend to my patient i prob. wouldnt now what my first action is....
