help! dizzy senior nursing student

ok so this is my last semester in nursing school and i have always had a problem with getting dizzy during procedures...my ears get "stuffy" the room spins and i start to black out...what can i do..my clinical instructor suggested peanut butter but thats not helping and once again i almost hit the floor in a patients room today...

i eat a large breakfast w my pnut butter and i make sure to breathe and not lock my knees...what can i do! i cant be a nurse if im passing out all the time at the simplest procedure! drawing blood, giving birth, circumcision, FOLEY CATHETER REMOVAL! i need suggestions or any kind of advice ! please help! is it always going to be like this?

Try focusing on the task and not the patient. I don't mean to ignore the patient's feelings, comfort level, etc. because those are all very important. Rather you need to remember the procedure isn't taking place on you. You are not giving birth, you are not feeling the discomfort of the needle. You are there to perform a task and help the patient out. It seems as if you are putting yourself in the patient's place and having a "sympathy" reaction. I think that eating a good meal will help too. It does get better. (This from someone who passed out watching a colonscopy who now works in a busy trauma ER!)
