Hello all.I could use some guidance. I'm currently at a community college taking prerequisite courses for nursing. I already have a BS in Environmental science and not doing anything with it. I have worked in pharmacy for 13 years. Doing IVs as well as retail and the old school compounding that no one does anymore.
Would nursing be a good fit? Can my experience with pharmacy help?
Just looking for help. I'm at a dead end pharmacy job and I can't move up. So nursing is a 2nd career.
Thanks
Mike

Your pharmacy experience would be a huge help in recognizing and understanding drugs nurses are in contact with.
The quickest route for you would be an ABSN (accelerated program).

Agreed with PP. If you really want to see if nursing is for you...try shadowing a nurse. It will give you the best perspective on what nursing really is about and will allow you to come to your own conclusion on if this is the right career path for you.

You might also consider getting your CNA then work in a hospital to see if nursing might be a good fit. CNA should not take too long.
Allow me to elaborate. I'm still working as a pharmacy tech trying to pay a mortgage. Only can do one class a semester until I'm done or until my wife will make more money to support us.
I have made TPNs and know a lot of IV meds that treat a lot of acute care (vanco, daptomycin) and work on average of 6 days a week.
Can't do CNA or go for LPN. And I herd that BSN is the way to go?
