heart palpitations

Hi

I just have a wierd question... does any of you get heart palpitations from being stressed out? I'm asking because I get palpitations and my doc said it was due to stress but I am not really stressed out at the moment. I'm just alittle concerned-worried because it is the strangest feeling and scares the crap out of me. I went and had an ekg every thing was ok the doc just said, "oh.. well that happens". Oh how reassuring...

My wife gets them too. We had all the diagnostic junk done and $400 (after ins.) later they told us it was PVC's (premature vascular contractions) and it was no big deal. She usually gets them when she lays down to rest. I guess as long as it keeps beating you don't have to worry ;)

I get them sometimes too. They are scary to say the least. My EKG is "perfectly normal" acording to my Dr. Not really reassuring though.

One thing I did notice was I have lots fewer of them when I take calcium supplements. I think at times my calcium gets low and causes the palpitations. I also take a multivitamin as well.

When we learned about how muscles contract in A&P, it made sense that the muscles need Potassium, sodium and calcium in order to contract effectively.

It helped me, you might try it. JJ

Yeah...I get them also except I suspect mine are atrial. PACs are pretty common when you are stressed, overly-caffeinated, or tired. Nicotine causes them also. I had all the dx stuff a few years ago also and was pretty much told that they are benign (EKG was normal) and I should cut back on the caffeine. :)

Hi

Thanks all for responding.

I used to work as a cna on the cardiac care unit, so I understand it is normal for pvc's. But I will get these palpitations any time of day and they last for days...then they'll stop for a month or so then back again for a week. has any one had this kind of pattern? instead of just getting them here and there. So I'm alittle paranoid-hey atleast my mind is off a&p for awhile :D

I get palpitations too. I pretty much am caffiene free. I get them more premenstrually too. I really feel them when I lay down to sleep and they keep me awake and make me anxious. I was on atenolol for a while 4-5 yrs ago and it helped a lot. I have been on atenolol (beta blocker) since March now, it helps some but not has much as it did 4-5 yrs ago. I have worn a monitor for a month and it showed PAC's. I work tele so I am very familiar with these not being dangerous but it still makes me anxious.

FYI

PVC=Premature Ventricular Contractions

AKA: FLB's=Funny little beats
