So on Friday we had a Halloween party for the residents. Only about 15 staff members dressed up. I'm the DON....I was a clown. The residents loved the sillyness of their nurses being in costume.
Tomorrow we're dressing up again.
Just want to says THANKS to the activities department for brightening the lives of the residents...and thanks to all the staff members who took the time to come in a costume.
I was asked to resident council today just so they could thank me for being a clown and acting "like a regular person and not a snob".
Do all y'all do anything for Halloween?

We have staff dress up day and then we have trick or treat. Staff bring their children and residents hand out candy for about two hours. We were supposed to do it tonight but due to the hurricane it has been post-poned. I believe the residents enjoy that more then staff dressing up. It's also a safe place for the staff to bring the kiddos and it helps build the inter generational gap. We are a church based facility- we just ask the the staff and children not dress up as anything deemed inappropriate.

We had our trick or treat party with kids last Friday as well. I admit, I HATE dressing up in costume and had NO intentions of participating. Long story short - the activity director threw a big ole guilt trip on me so I showed up as a farmer. Not very original but I have to say, the residents just gushed over me all day about how cute I looked and were actually still laughing about my cuteness today.
Now picture this middle age chunky woman in bib overalls and a flannel shirt as cute - I can't help it they all have visual deficits. :)
(Can I secretly admit that I'm glad the activity director put the guilt into me - I really did enjoy myself).
Secretly I'd like to be an Activities Director!

I've been known to wear my blond Dolly Parton wig (I'm brunette) or a tiara - just simple for the holiday. I've also worn my tiara for my birthday!!!

Our party was last Friday. Children/grandchildren (and occasionally great-grandchildren!) of staff and residents are invited along with various brownie troops and other kids from the community (I have no idea where our activities director found almost 100 kids this year!). Residents who want to participate get a pumpkin picture on their door and a basket of goodies to pass out (the younger short term patients tend to opt out). Then there's a party with cake. Mmmmm, cake :)
