Halifax...Info Please

Published

Hello to all you Halifax nurses...

I may be moving to your city in the near future...I've been looking and looking online trying to find out as much as possible about the area....and I've found a lot (what did people do before the internet?)

Here's the question:

I'm looking to purchase a home, preferably within walking/busing distance to the core and hospitals. I know to stay away from Gottingen but any other "go to" or "stay away from" info would be much appreciated. I'm currently looking around Windsor Park and Fairview area and I've heard both good and bad.

Thanks in advance for your time. I'm excited...never been to the east coast but have been told I'll love it.

Hi there,

I would actually shy away from both Fairview and the Windsor park area myself.....both areas are a bit cheaper to live in and close to the core, however not exactly the "greatest" areas to live in, but with that said, they aren't dangerous but are a bit "iffy" if you know what I mean

If you are in the airforce, then I assume that you know the military housing is in Windsor park though but if you are looking to rent an apartment off base, then I would suggest you look in Clayton Park, it is close to Fairview but is a much better area and there is lots of apartments in the area and it is still close to the core of Halifax. Some parts of Fairview are ok, but you will be able to tell which areas are ok to live just by looking around the area. I would also stay away from the Spryfield area as there has been alot of crime in that area in recent years. Bedford is about 10 mins away and is a great area as well as Sackville which is about 20-25 mins away.

I also wish to say welocme to Nova Scotia and hope you will love it here !!!

Sorry about my last post.....I re-read your post and saw that you stated that you are looking at purchasing a home and I wrote a reply talking about renting apartments, sorry about that.

But the same thing still goes....Bedford and Sackville are great, and Clayton Park is awesome, but prices of homes are a bit more pricey in that area. Timberlea is about 20-25 mins away as well and a good area. Hope this helps !!!!

The relocation services are great. Just tell them what you are looking for and the realtors are usually great at finding the places to look at. Been on house hunting trips before and have always managed to find a house. Just make sure your financing is in place before you head out (I think that might even be a condition now for getting a trip). Anyways, looked at 72 houses in three days and managed to find one.
