Hello my fellow :nurse: students,

I just have this one question in my mind that keeps on bugging me for ages now:uhoh21: Anyway here goes............ I am planning to get a tattoo on my b-day:balloons: w/c is in a month's time, however, i am having second thoughts about gettin one as i may encounter some problems in the future for applying for a job....Does any of you have tattoos??? and did u get in trouble for it???....Coz i am just eager 2 know if it will be an BIG issue when I graduate and try to look for a job:chair: THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE:p

It is really a personal preference, and there was a recent thread about tatoos and professionalism you might want to check out.....I personally have two tattoos, but they are on my back and cannot be seen in scrubs.

My oldest son talked alot about getting a tattoo during his Senior Year of high school. The rule was if you lived at home, no tattoos. I said "what is the big hurry? Why don't you wait a year and see if you still feel the same way?".

He waited a year. He changed his mind. He said "thanks mom".

What can it hurt to wait?

hi...i just got a tat the other day and in my opinion its ur choice what you do...if other don't like it, tough....but saying that being in the profession we are, it would be better not to have it 'on show' as in have it somewhere where it cant be seen eg back, ankle. and also do keep in mind that some pt have them as well so why cant us, we are only human as well...if the tat would affects the way i work then maybe i would have decided it againts it but it doesnt, im still the same person..tat or no tat

There are a lot of people who regret having gotten them.

Have you perhaps tried one of the temporary tats to see what they are like, how you feel when you see yourself tatted, etc.?

Maybe it's only loosely related, but I have acquired a lot of clothes over the years that I absolutely loved when I got them, and even loved for months or more afterward, but which I have not worn (for good reason) for a lot longer.

Of course it is your choice: are you prepared to "roll with the punches" when you might miss opportunities because, all other things being equal, you were the one with the tattoo and the other person got the job, accepted to the program, etc.?

Such a permanent thing. (If you are waiting til your birthday, are you sure you want one? I'd think you'd just go out and get it, if you didn't have doubts.....)

where on your body are you wanting to get it?

i've been umm-ing and err-ing whether to get a tatoo myself.

a girlfriend suggested to me that before she got hers (3 big beautiful sunflowers on her l shoulder blade) to try a henna one first - to get the positioning right.

i decided to get a henna one first to see if i could live with my new decision.

it was the best thing ever! i got a big colourful butterfly on my r) hip - they mean a lot to me. it lasted about 6 weeks. at first i was fine with it but at about 5 weeks i missed my 'previous' body.

so i decided that i wasn't ready yet for one there - or maybe not one that is so big .... maybe my ankle?? :chuckle
